Hi Reader!
This is Kate here, the founder of WanderLuxe Travel co.
If you’re here then that means you’ve followed my link or clicked on my site in an attempt to either learn more about the gorgeous Four Seasons Maldives, or so that you can stalk my travel photos and see what I’ve been getting up to Either way, I’m glad you’re here.
As per my previous post (which you can read here: Maldives Kuda Hurra if you somehow missed my first Maldives instalment), I recently had the privilege and pleasure of experiencing the two Four Seasons Maldives resorts, and I have to admit…. I am still pinching myself.
So, now it’s time to share a little insight into my Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru stay, which was the second stop of my visit.
VIEWS FOR DAYS!
Located via Seaplane from either Male or Four Seasons Kuda Huraa, the journey to get there in itself was spectacular. As I sat perched in my window seas, as we flew over the Indian Ocean, I was in awe as the colour from the reefs shifted from a deep to a light blue. The ocean was glistening like diamonds and below I caught glimpses of but a few of the 100’s of tiny islands that make up the Maldives.
PARADISE IS FOUND
Landing at Landaa was like something out of a dream. White sand that stretched along the length of the island, peeking out from the aqua blue water to create a long sandbar. Perfect for setting up your umbrella and lazing the day away.
Dense vegetation on the island gave it a jungle feel, and provided great little nooks and crannies to explore. From the herb garden, to the Yoga Shala, the library & fitness centre, there were plenty of facilities all nestled in to the island, without feeling too developed or spoiling the barefoot luxury atmosphere.
Landaa is much bigger than Kuda Huraa, so after being escorted to our rooms, we found bikes with our initials on the front, waiting for us at our villa entrance. Such a fun way to explore. They even have great kid’s bikes and baby trailers, so the whole family can get around.
VILLA STYLE
While I was lucky enough to stay in an Overwater Villa at Four Seasons Kuda Huraa, this time I was able to experience a Beachfront Villa category, which I was surprised to learn is what the majority of return guest’s request, when visiting the Maldives.
I know that the Overwater Villa is everyone’s dream, but in actual fact the beachfront villas generally offer more space, more privacy and better lagoon/beach access.
These villas did not disappoint.
Nestled into the extensive vegetation on the island, they were VERY private, and came with a massive 137m2 (1475 sq ft!) of living space. This is made up of the villa itself, complete with indoor/outdoor shower, and dressing area. Then the outdoor living space which comprised of a private pool, lounge area, dining table, loft and a hammock.
You also have your own beach cabana and deck chairs on the beachfront which were a mere 10m stroll away.
The styling was understated luxury. Dark timber and incense gave it a distinct Maldivian vibe, and the tones were neutral whites and blues, which seem to be a common theme throughout the Maldives.
I also had a peek at the overwater villas, and again the blue and white theming continued, however this time they were a little more contemporary than the beachfront villas. Minimalist styling and big outdoor deck spaces truly that brought the outside in, and offered a dreamy overwater villa experience.
YOU WON’T GET BORED!
Have you ever said (or had someone say) ‘I don’t think I could do a week in the Maldives, I’d get bored?’
Well, I’ve said it and I have definitely had clients say it to me, but after going myself I can one hundred percent, with hand on heart, tell you that you won’t get bored. Especially at a larger island like Landaa.
While you can definitely take a book, kick back in your villa, swim in your private pool and relax, If you’re an active person, then never fear as the activity options are endless.
From the water based adventures like enjoying the lagoon, snorkelling, diving, fishing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, jet skiing, sunset cruising and dolphin watching (to name but a few through the help of the resorts specialised marine and recreation centres), there are also plenty of land activities to help utilise your time or to help you break a sweat.
From Anti-gravity yoga to a more subtle and traditional Sunrise Yoga Class. The recently added Yoga and Workout trail that leads you around the island, following posted signs with specific Yoga asana and workout stations to complete, is also a lot of fun.
There is the fabulous spa that also specialises in tailored wellness programs and ayuvedic treatments, all nestled in their jungle treatment rooms or overwater bungalows.
WORLD CLASS DINING
We all know that food plays a big part of travel. We tend to plan whole days around the places that we’ll eat, and food offers us an opportunity immerse ourselves in the culture of the destination, through their local flavours and signature cuisines. So, if you’re a foody in the Maldives the Four Seasons Landaa Girvaavaru have you covered.
Whilst there, we were lucky enough to experience all of their signature dining restaurants, and they were all fantastic. From an International Buffet, with cuisine options from all over the world, to Al Barakat, which is a vibrant Middle Eastern restaurant, where you can dine under lanterns, enjoy the flavours of Arabia and smoke shisha pipe under the stars, as the waves lap the shore line.
Of all of the dining options on offer, my absolute favourite was Blu.
Blu is Landaa’s signature dining option that offers a gorgeous setting that looks across the infinite blue to the white sand beaches, infinity pool and overwater villas. Their A La Carte breakfast (if you want a change from the buffet) was SO good, with fresh juices and a huge range of continental and hot breakfast details. Our evening dinner was a 4 course lobster based menu, and the contemporary Italian fare was just divine!
Attached to Blu is their beachfront bar, where you sip your evening cocktail with your toes in the sand, but all in all the food and beverage experience at Blu is what is due to their manager Sandeep). With a smile as big as they come, you can tell that his role at Blu is more than just a job. He is passionate about creating unique cocktails and ensure that his staff are offering the best experience for the clients, and all of the guests absolutely loved him!
Travel is after all more than the bed you sleep in or the places you see, but the people you meet along the way are what makes all the difference.
Did I mention the PRIVATE ISLAND?
No? Well, whilst at Landaa Giraavaru we were also able to visit the Four Seasons Private Island which is an exclusive use island that sleeps up to 16 guests.
With 3 separate residences (including an overwater villa), the space was fit for a queen (and celebs LOVE this place). Rather than go on about it, I thought I’d let the pictures do the talking…
But do I HAVE to go home?
It was a sad day when it was time to say goodbye to paradise, but one thing is for sure, my first experience in the Maldives has spoilt me rotten and it definitely won’t be the last.
There are so many islands to discover, with each of the resorts offering something a little different, but I can safely say that if anyone is looking for a refined and luxurious Maldives experience, whilst offering a hugeeee range of experiences and world class dining, then the Four Seasons Resorts are an ideal choice for couples and families alike.
Yours in Travel & WanderLuxe,
Kate xx
