Are you looking for a NSW Farm Stay close to Sydney? Here are some of my WanderLuxe favourites!
With all of us being urged to Holiday Here This Year (and with little choice given that our international borders are still closed), Farm Stay’s have been highly sought after, so I thought I would pop together a list of some NSW favourites that are within each of Sydney.
Reach out to check dates or availability and along with your farm stay, I can help to curate a whole itinerary around the experience. Think local dining suggestions and sightseeing highlights.
The Woods Farm – Jervis Bay
Depending on how far from Sydney you want to venture, this is an absolute FAVE!
Located in Jervis Bay this property has cottages and glamping, with plenty of gorgeous features and animals to interact with.
Enjoy the complete country experience and farm lifestyle as much or as little as you like! Whether you watch the kangaroos hop by and enjoy the neighs, and baaas and moos and chirps of the local animals from afar or if you get up close and person and feed the horses by hand, pat the cows and goats, pick fresh eggs and play with the alpacas – you will love the beautiful and crazy animals that call the Woods home.
Plus you’re on the doorstep of Jervis Bay, so you’ve still got beaches nearby and lot’s to do.
Maple Lodge – Robertson (Southern Highlands)
If the budget allows this is a gorgeous homestead, with animals onsite that you’re allowed to pat, feed etc…. including 4 friendly ALPACAS (The Packer Family) live on the property as well as 2 friendly GOATS (Apple & Peanut) a PIG named Baby, 3 chickens, 2 Ponies (Maple & Dundee).
The house is epic and perfect for a couple of friends/kids to stay, with pizza over, games room and plenty of space for everyone.
You’re also close to the famous Robertson Pie shop (who doesn’t love pies) and only 30mins from Bowral, where you’ll find some gorgeous restaurants, cafes, shopping etc…
(oh and Centennial Vineyards is close as well – Wineeeeeeee!)
Jamberoo Valley Farm – South Coast
Located only 20mins South of Wollongong at 15mins to the seaside town of Kiama, this is a luxury Farm Stay with some beautifully styled cottages.
With Cattle, Sheep, Pigs, Chickens to feed, eggs to collect, native animals to spot, and fruit and vegie gardens to pick, there are some cute experiences to have with the kids.
They also have a Swedish hot tub! (lush!)
As mentioned, it’s close to Kiama where you’ll find beaches, café’s restaurants etc… so while you’ll feel a million miles away when on the farm, you’re close to the action if you want it.
Bamack Farmstay – Mudgee
If venturing a little further afield is an option, and a more structured, interactive farm stay is your vibe, then check out Bamack in beautiful Mudgee.
They have a couple of accommodation options (including a converted train carriage) and their farm experience is extensive!
Every morning starts with full country breakfast provisions that you can cook at your leisure in your fully equipped kitchen facilities. Afterwards, it’s off to feed the many farm animals; bottle feeding baby lambs, collecting chicken eggs and led horse rides around the 285 acre farm.
After lunch there is Kid’s Club and baking homemade afternoon tea and so much more! All their activities are tailored to your individual personal needs and are complimentary during your stay.
Plus, you’re in MUDGEE! Famous for its wine and honey, there are some beautiful food and wine experiences out this way, so the trip would definitely be worth the drive.
Kookaburra Farm Stay – Port Stephens
This one is a little more low key, but still perfect for a family farm escape.
This property has some self-contained cottages and they run daily farm tours in the afternoon.
In the summer they start at 4.30pm and in the winter feeding time is 4pm. The session lasts 1-1.5 hours, and all guests assemble at the milking shed next to the farmhouse where the little chickens live and are waiting for a cuddle. Next you move onto the cow milking and feeding of the calf and cows, and then the tractor ride to feed all the rest of the animals that live on the farm.
Perfect for kids of all ages and as it’s in Port Stephen’s, so you’re close to some stunning beaches in that part of the world…. So depending on when you’re looking at, you could head out for some beach time, or explore some other things to do in the local area in the morning, then head back to the farm in the afternoon for the experience.
Minibah – Kangaroo Valley
This is another lovely property made up of various cottages, close to Kangaroo Valley. The area is stunning, with some amazing bush walks, hikes and lookouts in the area, as well as Kangaroo Valley Village, where you’ll find cafes, a family friendly pub and some great little stores.
The farm itself offers plenty for kids of all ages.
In the mornings visit the friendly chickens and collect the eggs. Watch the ducks playing and swimming. They also have goats, sheep and alpaca. They leave out hay for you, plus some special food that they permit you to feed the animals. They also have a little play fort, which is great for the kids to play on whilst adults spend their afternoon chilling on the veranda.
Follow the Cow Trail Adventure exploring the paddocks and fields with the grazing cows. Details and map are in the guest info folder left for you in your cottage, or head down the hill to their beautiful creek for a splash.
Little Willow Farm Stay – Blue Mountains
Depending on when you want to go, this one opens again in March and is a 3 Bedroom Luxury cottage on a farm in the Blue Mountains.
Similar to the others, they have a range of animal feeding experiences and extensive grounds, with a creek etc…. to walk through and explore. They will also organise picnics for you, if you wanted to have a little special picnic adventure.
